New Director Hired

Director Nathan Brown

6/29/18: WEAVERVILLE, NC: The Boosters are happy to announce the new Band Director at North Buncombe High School:   Nathan Brown. Please come to welcome him at a “Meet and Greet” July 3 from noon-1pm, and from 5-6 p.m. in the band room.

ABOUT OUR DIRECTOR

Mr. Brown is a graduate of Western Carolina University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Along with music education, he also completed a year of training in band instrument repair at Western Iowa Technical Community College.

Mr. Brown just finished his third year as Director of Bands at Bandys High School in Catawba, NC. Within these three years ,the band has had considerable growth and received superior ratings at MPA, Solo and Ensemble festivals, and success at marching band and winter guard events. Mr. Brown was also selected as the First Year Teacher of the Year for Bandys High School, Outstanding Student in Music at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Outstanding Prospective Teacher Award at Western Carolina University.

In addition to being a band director, Mr. Brown is on staff with Revelation Percussion, which most recently was a finalist at Winter Guard International World Championships. He is also an active percussion arranger and has written for programs in the Southeast and Midwest. His professional affiliations include National Association for Music Educators and North Carolina Music Educators Association.

Mr. Brown is extremely excited to be at North Buncombe High School and looking forward to a wonderful year of making music and memories!

The Blackhawk Bands have received numerous “Superior” and honors in concert and marching activities. The Blackhawk Marching Band has been invited to perform in Normandy France in 2019. The National D-day 75th Year Committee personally invited our high school band as one of ten bands across the nation to participate in the 2019 D-Day Memorial Parade. The North Buncombe High School Band will have the opportunity to tour historic battlefields and experience history first-hand. This event has been recognized by numerous veterans’ associations, community organizations, and military and government officials and will provide the students and spectators with an opportunity to salute those men and women who have and continue to sacrifice for our nation.
